Description: “Kids,” released in 1995, tells a provocative and raw story centered around a group of teenagers navigating their lives in New York City. The film follows Telly, a young man who is obsessed with losing his virginity and seeks out inexperienced girls for sexual encounters. In one scene, Telly convinces a 12-year-old girl, who is a virgin, to have sex with him. Afterward, he meets his friend Casper, and they discuss Telly’s exploits, revealing his disturbing desire to continue targeting virginal girls.
The two friends then head to a store, where Casper steals alcohol while Telly distracts the cashier. Later, they visit their friend Paul’s apartment, where they boast about their sexual experiences and display a careless attitude toward unprotected sex and sexually transmitted diseases. The boys smoke marijuana and watch skateboarding videos, with Casper experimenting with nitrous oxide from balloons, which Telly views as risky.
Meanwhile, a group of girls, including Ruby and Jennie, discuss their perspectives on sex, which starkly contrast with the boys’ views. The girls emphasize the importance of relationships and express concerns about sexual health. Ruby and Jennie reveal they recently underwent STD testing, with Ruby testing negative despite multiple unprotected encounters. However, Jennie discovers she is HIV-positive after having sex only once with Telly.
Devastated by the news, Jennie spends the day searching for Telly to warn him and prevent him from infecting others. As the story unfolds, Telly and Casper steal money from Telly’s mother, who is distracted by caring for her newborn. The film delves into themes of youth, recklessness, and the consequences of misguided choices.
