Description: In the fast-paced life of today, children in nuclear families grow slowly but learn quickly. They are taught to study hard, build a career, and survive in a competitive world. Parents emphasize winning the rat race but often fail to teach their children that even by winning, they may remain trapped in the same cycle. Children grow up without love, attention, or companionship from their busy parents, who often replace affection with computers and video games. However, it is universally understood that a child’s complete development requires love, care, and attention—a basic right.
“Kidnapper” (2013) is a film that doesn’t offer anything extraordinary but has its moments. If you can overlook a few flaws, it can be a one-time watch.
The story follows Bubka (Samadarshi), an aspiring artist who moves to Kolkata from the suburbs. Struggling to make a living, he takes up odd jobs and lies to his girlfriend, Koel (Ridhima), claiming to be a sales executive to impress her. Koel, constantly suspicious, can’t stand him talking to other girls. Bubka is joined by two friends (Sourav Chatterjee, Apurbo Roy), who also come to the city in search of jobs. They all stay together in a rented place owned by an elderly man, Buluda (Paran Bandopadhyay).
As days pass, Bubka and his friends fail to find work. Frustrated, Buluda confronts them for not paying rent for months and urges them to go out and earn money—even suggesting kidnapping as a quick way to make cash. Confused and desperate, Bubka’s friends end up kidnapping four children—three boys and a girl. Chaos ensues when they realize one of the boys is Koel’s nephew. Bubka and Buluda are furious at their reckless actions.
