Description: Kaththi (2014) is a gripping Indian film that follows the journey of Kathiresan, known as Kaththi, a prisoner in Kolkata who aids the police in capturing an escaping inmate, Vivek Banerjee, before making his own escape. Kaththi heads to Chennai with his friend Ravi, planning to flee to Bangkok. However, his plans change when he meets Ankitha, who tricks him into believing she wants to marry him, only to give him a fake phone number.
Later, Kaththi and Ravi witness Jeevanandam, who strikingly resembles Kaththi, being shot by a group of thugs. They rush him to the hospital, and Kaththi decides to assume Jeeva’s identity to evade the police. Under Jeeva’s name, Kaththi and Ravi enter an old-age home managed by Jeeva, initially intending to steal ₹25 lakhs for their Bangkok trip. However, Kaththi soon discovers Jeeva’s noble mission.
Jeeva, a communist activist and hydrology expert, hails from the drought-stricken village of Thanoothu in Tirunelveli district. He uncovers a significant groundwater source beneficial for irrigation in the region. However, a corrupt MNC owner, Chirag, deceives the villagers into surrendering their lands for a factory. Jeeva is imprisoned, and six villagers take their own lives to draw media attention and secure his release. Moved by their plight, Kaththi decides to fight for their cause while masquerading as Jeeva.
Kaththi and the villagers approach the court, where he uses legal tactics to challenge Chirag’s bribed jury. He orchestrates a plan to expose Chirag’s corruption, sending an undercover hairdresser to obtain Chirag’s fingerprint. Despite Chirag sending henchmen to eliminate him, Kaththi emerges victorious. Meanwhile, the real Jeeva escapes from Kolkata prison with the help of Vivek, who, upon hearing Jeeva’s story, plans to kill Kaththi.
Unaware of Jeeva and Vivek’s men heading to Chennai, Kaththi strives to highlight the villagers’ struggles through the media, but his efforts are ignored. Days later, the Madras High Court rules in favor of Jeeva and the villagers. However, the judge warns that if Chirag can’t prove the villagers’ support for the factory was fraudulent within five days, the verdict will favor Chirag. The film builds tension as Kaththi fights against time and corruption to save the villagers and expose the truth.
