Storyline: Derek Cho introduces the audience to the ID-7 “Red Eye” virus, a global outbreak that affects neural pathways. While not fatal, the virus removes inhibitions and moral integrity, causing individuals to act on their darkest impulses, including committing murder. Nevil Reed, the first known murderer driven by ID-7, was found not liable due to the virus’s influence. Derek, a lawyer at Towers and Smythe Consulting (TSC), discovered the legal loophole that won Reed’s case, earning him a promotion. However, Derek’s ambition led him to lose his moral compass, neglecting his family as he climbed the corporate ladder.
One morning, Derek encounters a desperate client, Melanie Cross, who needs more time on a loan. Unable to assist, Derek calls security on her. Later, he discovers that his superior, Kara Powell (“The Siren”), has blamed him for a mishandled legal case involving Vanda Corp., a major company. Confronting Kara, they both plead their cases to John Towers, the company head, who orders Derek’s termination. Human resources chief Lester “The Reaper” McGill offers Derek a generous severance package in exchange for taking responsibility, but Derek refuses, fearing disbarment and lawsuits.
As Derek is being escorted out, the building is placed under quarantine after the ID-7 virus is detected in the ventilation system. A neutralizing agent is released, requiring eight hours to eliminate the virus. In the meantime, chaos erupts as everyone in the building becomes infected, leading to violence and unrest. Derek attempts to take the elevator to confront Towers and the board of directors but is instead sent to the basement, where he is attacked by Towers’ enforcer, Colton “The Bull” Snyder. Derek’s friend Ewan arrives to help but is accidentally killed by The Bull, further enraging Derek.
