The story dates back to the early 1980s when Krishnan, a young schoolboy, befriends Gangadharan (Ganga), a boy from a Dalit family. Ganga’s elder brother, Balan, is involved in smuggling and criminal activities, exposing both Krishnan and Ganga to violence at a young age. Krishnan falls in love with Anitha, who is connected to Ganga through family traditions.
Later, Krishnan, Ganga, Balan, and their friends form a gang working for a local businessman, Surendran Aashaan. After a violent incident, Krishnan accidentally kills a police officer while trying to protect Ganga, leading to his imprisonment. Upon his return to Kammattippaadam, Krishnan discovers that the gang has become more deeply involved in smuggling under Surendran’s leadership, creating numerous enemies, including Johnny. He also learns that Ganga is in love with Anitha and plans to marry her, adding tension to their friendship.
The gang begins threatening locals to sell their homes at low prices, causing distress to Ganga’s grandfather, who dies heartbroken over his grandchildren’s actions. Balan, now regretting their criminal lifestyle, decides to leave it behind and start a travel agency to live peacefully with his family. During a conversation about Anitha, Balan expresses his wish to see Krishnan marry her, leading to a heated argument with Ganga. The confrontation results in Ganga leaving the car, marking the fracture of their once-strong friendship.
