Storyline:
A 26-year-old woman named Old Dolio Dyne is emotionally stunted due to her manipulative relationship with her con artist parents, who treat her more like a partner in their scams than a daughter. The family owes $1,500 in back rent for their leaking apartment, which is actually an office space connected to a soap factory. Unable to pay, Old Dolio devises a plan: they will fly to New York City using tickets won in a contest.
At the baggage claim, her parents will take her luggage, and Old Dolio will claim it as lost. She plans to collect travel insurance money to cover the rent. However, after an uneventful trip, Old Dolio is surprised to find her parents befriending Melanie, a friendly young woman they met during the flight. They even involve Melanie in their scam, having her pretend to be their daughter to pick up the luggage.
Old Dolio reveals she reported the luggage as lost but warns it could take weeks to receive the insurance money. The family then seeks alternative ways to earn cash. Melanie, who lied about being a physician’s assistant and is actually an eyeglass store clerk, introduces them to elderly clients from whom they steal a blank check, cashing it for $650.
Later, the family pretends to be the family of a dying man, but Old Dolio is deeply affected by the experience. She feels hurt when her parents comfort Melanie instead of her, highlighting the emotional neglect she endures.
