Description: Kaduva, titled “Tiger,” is a 2022 Indian Malayalam-language masala film directed by Shaji Kailas and written by Jinu V. Abraham. The movie features Prithviraj Sukumaran in the lead role, supported by Vivek Oberoi and Samyuktha Menon. It was jointly produced by Supriya Menon of Prithviraj Productions and Listin Stephen of Magic Frames, with the latter also handling distribution. The film’s music and background score were composed by Jakes Bejoy.
Principal photography began in April 2021 but was paused due to a surge in COVID-19 cases in Kerala. Filming resumed in October and concluded in March 2022. The movie was primarily shot in locations such as Pala, Erattupetta, Vandiperiyar, Mundakkayam, and Ernakulam. Released on July 7, 2022, Kaduva received mixed reviews from both critics and audiences.
Set in the late 1990s, the story follows Kaduvakunnel Kuriyachan, known as Kaduva, a planter from Pala. He is brought to the District Jail in Kottayam, where an attempt is made on his life by three goons from Kottarakkara sub-jail, acting under the orders of I.G. Joseph Chandy Ouseppukutty. However, Kaduva successfully defends himself against the attackers.
The narrative flashes back to Kaduva’s peaceful life with his wife Elsa Kurian, their son Chacko, and daughters Tessa and Eva. His life takes a turn due to an ego clash with Joseph Chandy, triggered by a conflict involving Joseph’s mother, Cheddathi. She falsely claims that her piano was gifted to a corrupt priest, Fr. Robin Poovampara, instead of the church. This leads Kaduva to insult Joseph’s father, Karikandhathil Chandichayan, prompting Joseph to seek revenge.
Joseph uses his influence to transfer all police officers in Pala and appoints S.I. Dominic Benjamin, whose father had previously been assaulted by Kaduva. Joseph also acquires land sold by Kaduva to an American family and creates chaos at Kaduva’s bar. Leveraging his authority, Joseph issues a search warrant for Kaduva’s residence. While en route, Kaduva is intercepted by S.I. Rajeevan, who attempts to arrest him over an arms license case. After a confrontation, Kaduva is arrested, and his bar license is revoked due to his alleged involvement in spirit smuggling.
