**Storyline:**
Sathya, Sibiraj, and Pradeep Krishnamoorthy have collaborated once again for *Kabadadaari*, marking their second project together. This time, they’ve opted for another whodunit thriller, a remake of a successful film. The story follows Shakti (Sibiraj), a dedicated traffic cop whose passion lies in solving criminal cases. One day, he stumbles upon the skeletal remains of a three-member family and decides to investigate, despite warnings from his superiors.
However, the investigation takes a complicated turn when Shakti discovers that the remains are over four decades old. His path crosses with Kumar (Jayaprakash), a small-time journalist equally intrigued by the case. Together, they begin to unravel the mystery. The plot thickens with the arrival of Ranjan (Nasser), a retired cop who originally investigated the case decades ago, and actress Ramya (Suman Ranganathan). As layers of the past unfold, Shakti faces numerous challenges. Will he succeed in solving this unusual case?
**Highlights:**
The film’s engaging screenplay is a major strength, avoiding unnecessary diversions. The adaptation of Hemanth’s Kannada version to suit Tamil sensibilities is well-executed. Nasser and Jayaprakash deliver effortless performances, adding depth to the narrative. Sibiraj convincingly portrays the emotions of a determined cop, while Suman, Nandita, and Sampath perform adequately in their roles.
**Drawbacks:**
The second half feels slightly prolonged, even with the reduced runtime compared to the original. The presentation could have been tighter, and the twists, while effective, could have been more thrilling. The antagonist, who was more impactful in the original, appears less menacing here.
**Technical Aspects:**
Simon K King’s music and Rasamathi’s cinematography complement the film’s sleek narration. Overall, *Kabadadaari* is a commendable remake of a gripping murder mystery, staying true to its source material while catering to Tamil audiences.
