Description: K.G.F: Chapter 1 is a 2018 Indian Kannada-language period action film written and directed by Prashanth Neel and produced by Vijay Kiragandur under Hombale Films. It serves as the first installment in a two-part series, with K.G.F: Chapter 2 as its sequel. The film stars Yash as Rocky, a high-ranking assassin from Mumbai born into poverty. After being offered control of Mumbai by his employer’s boss, Rocky disguises himself as a slave-laborer in the Narachi limestone mine, also known as Kolar Gold Fields, with the goal of assassinating Garuda, the future heir of the region. Supporting actors include Srinidhi Shetty, Vasishta N. Simha, Achyuth Kumar, and Malavika Avinash, while Anant Nag narrates the story. Produced on a budget of ₹80 crores, it was the most expensive Kannada film at the time of its release.
Production for K.G.F: Chapter 1 began in early 2015, with filming commencing on January 15, 2017. The majority of the movie was shot in Kolar, Mysore, and parts of North Karnataka, with principal photography concluding on August 17, 2018. The film’s cinematography was handled by Bhuvan Gowda, while Srikanth Gowda took charge of editing. Ravi Basrur composed the music.
The Kannada version of the film was released on December 20, 2018, followed by dubbed versions in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Hindi the next day. It received a positive response from audiences but mixed reviews from critics. Despite this, K.G.F: Chapter 1 was a commercial success, earning ₹250 crore during its theatrical run and becoming the highest-grossing Kannada film of all time. It also achieved cult status and won two awards at the 66th National Film Awards for Best Action and Best Special Effects.
