Description: Dr. Elizabeth Masterson, a dedicated emergency medicine physician in San Francisco, becomes the victim of a severe car accident while heading to a blind date arranged by her sister. Three months later, David Abbott, a landscape architect seeking a fresh start after a personal tragedy, moves into Elizabeth’s apartment, seemingly by fate. Soon after, Elizabeth begins to appear to David in the apartment, leading to confusion and disbelief. She mistakenly accuses him of being a squatter, while he assumes she has broken in. Eventually, they realize Elizabeth is not truly alive, as she can vanish, pass through walls, and interact with objects mysteriously. Elizabeth insists she is not dead but cannot recall her identity.
David attempts to free the apartment of her spirit through exorcism, but it proves unsuccessful. He then seeks the help of Darryl, a psychic bookstore clerk, who claims Elizabeth isn’t truly dead and advises David to let go of his emotional burdens from the past. When Elizabeth urges David to move on from being heartbroken, he becomes upset, and Darryl reminds her to respect the dead. Elizabeth later learns that David’s wife, Laura, had passed away, deepening the connection between them.
Since only David can see and hear Elizabeth, others believe he is hallucinating or talking to himself. Determined to uncover her identity, Elizabeth asks David for help. They visit her neighbors, but no one recognizes her. During a medical emergency at a restaurant, Elizabeth assists David in saving a man’s life, triggering a memory of her profession as a doctor. This leads them to a hospital where her true story unfolds.
Elizabeth’s mentor reveals she has been in a coma since the accident three months earlier. When David touches her hand in the hospital, she feels it, confirming that her spirit is still tied to her body. Together, they embark on a journey to reunite Elizabeth with her physical self, navigating the thin line between life and the afterlife.
