Description: In 1995, Chris Brander, an overweight high school senior, harbors a secret love for his classmate and best friend, Jamie Palamino. He confesses his feelings by writing in her yearbook and attends their graduation party. However, her ex-boyfriend, Tim, swaps the yearbook, reads the declaration aloud, and humiliates Chris. Jamie admits she doesn’t share his feelings, leaving him heartbroken. Chris leaves the party in tears, vowing never to return and to outshine everyone in the future.
Ten years later, Chris, now a successful and slim record producer in Los Angeles, is tasked with accompanying self-obsessed pop singer Samantha James to Paris to secure her signing with their label. Reluctantly agreeing, Chris struggles with Samantha’s advances, as their previous date led to his hospitalization. During the flight, Samantha accidentally sets the private jet on fire, forcing an emergency landing in New Jersey near Chris’s hometown.
Staying at his mother’s house, Chris reconnects with his teenage past, including unresolved feelings for Jamie. He introduces Samantha to his family, including his 18-year-old brother Mike, who idolizes her. At a local bar, Chris reunites with old classmates, including Jamie, who now works as a bartender to fund her teaching graduate studies. While trying to rekindle a romantic connection with Jamie, Chris struggles with the importance of their platonic friendship.
During a friendly ice-skating outing, Chris injures himself in a hockey game with Jamie and some kids, leading to an ambulance ride. There, Jamie reunites with Dusty Dinkleman, a paramedic and former classmate who also harbors feelings for her.
