Julia perseveres through challenges, including Paul’s frequent reassignments, Louisette’s lack of commitment to the project, and an investigation into Paul’s alleged “un-American activities.” Although Houghton Mifflin rejects the book for being too lengthy and complex, it is eventually published by Alfred A. Knopf.
In 2002, Julie Powell, dissatisfied with her job at the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation’s call center, where she deals with calls from those affected by the 9/11 attacks, seeks a personal passion project. She decides to cook every recipe from Julia Child’s 1961 book, *Mastering the Art of French Cooking*, within a year, documenting her journey in a blog. Initially supported by her husband, Eric, the project strains their relationship as Julie becomes increasingly self-absorbed and neglects their marriage. After a heated argument, Eric temporarily leaves, leading Julie to express her regret in her blog. Her efforts eventually attract the attention of a *New York Times* food writer, leading to widespread media coverage and interest from literary agents and publishers. Julie is disheartened to learn that Julia Child disapproved of her blog project but remains grateful for the inspiration Child’s work brought to her life.
