Description: “Jonaki,” a 2018 Bengali-language psychological drama, is directed by Aditya Vikram Sengupta and produced by Samir Sarkar. This India-France-Singapore co-production, created by Magic Hour Films in collaboration with For Films and Catherine Dussart Production, revolves around the dream-like journey of an 81-year-old woman in a coma. Through surrealistic imagery, she revisits painful memories of her tumultuous life. The film features a stellar cast, including the late Lolita Chatterjee, Jim Sarbh, Ratnabali Bhattacharjee, and Sumanto Chattopadhyay.
The movie premiered in the Bright Future section of the 47th International Film Festival Rotterdam in 2018, where it was nominated for the Netpac Awards. It was also showcased at prestigious international film festivals such as the Shanghai International Film Festival, New Horizons Film Festival, Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles, and Indian Melbourne Film Festival.
“Jonaki” received critical acclaim and was nominated for the Golden Gateway of India for Best Film at the 20th Mumbai Film Festival (MAMI) in 2018, where it won the Silver Gateway Award. Additionally, it earned a Special Mention for Best Film on Gender Equality at the 2018 Oxfam Awards.
