Description: John Wick (2014) tells the story of a former hitman who embarks on a path of vengeance after a devastating loss. Following the death of his wife, Helen, to a terminal illness, John Wick receives a beagle puppy named Daisy, a final gift arranged by Helen to help him cope with his grief. Despite his tough exterior, John forms a bond with Daisy, and they spend their days together, including driving around in his prized 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1.
One day, John encounters a group of Russian gangsters led by Iosef, who attempts to intimidate John into selling his car. When John refuses, Iosef and his crew break into John’s home, kill Daisy, and steal the Mustang. Iosef takes the car to a chop shop to alter its identification, but the shop owner, Aurelio, recognizes the vehicle and immediately contacts Viggo Tarasov, the leader of the Russian mafia in New York City and Iosef’s father. Aurelio warns Viggo about Iosef’s actions, revealing that the car belongs to John Wick, a former enforcer for the Tarasov syndicate known as “Baba Yaga.”
Viggo berates Iosef for his recklessness, explaining that John Wick was once a legendary assassin under his employ. John’s past accomplishments, including completing an “impossible task” that solidified the Tarasov syndicate’s power, make him a formidable and dangerous adversary. Despite Viggo’s attempts to negotiate with John, Wick is determined to exact revenge. Viggo, realizing the gravity of the situation, sends hitmen to eliminate John, but Wick easily dispatches them and uses an underground cleaning service to cover his tracks.
In response, Viggo places a $2 million bounty on John’s head, even offering the contract to John’s former mentor, Marcus. Meanwhile, John seeks refuge at the New York Continental Hotel, a sanctuary for criminals that prohibits any form of violence or “business” on its premises. However, Viggo doubles the bounty for those willing to break the rules and kill John within the hotel, escalating the conflict.
The film explores themes of loss, retribution, and the unrelenting nature of John Wick’s quest for justice.
