**Storyline:**
Jigarthanda DoubleX, also referred to as Jigarthanda 2, is a 2023 Indian Tamil-language film blending Western, action, and comedy genres. Directed by Karthik Subbaraj and produced in collaboration with Kaarthekeyen Santhanam, S. Kathiresan, and Alankar Pandian under Stone Bench Films, Five Star Creations, and Invenio Origin, it serves as a spiritual successor and prequel to the 2014 film Jigarthanda. The cast includes notable actors such as Raghava Lawrence, S. J. Suryah, and Nimisha Sajayan.
Set against the backdrop of the 1970s, the plot revolves around a filmmaker and a gangster joining forces to create a movie. The film was officially announced in August 2022, with principal photography starting the following December and concluding in July 2023. The soundtrack is composed by Santhosh Narayanan, with cinematography by Tirru and editing by Shafique Mohamed Ali. In the story, DSP Rathna Kumar is tasked with capturing the infamous elephant poacher Shettani in the Kombai forest. The local police subject the tribal communities to torture in their quest for information, despite the fact that these communities are victims of Shettani’s crimes. Meanwhile, in Madras, Kirubakaran is selected for the position of Sub-Inspector in the Tamil Nadu Police. He visits his fiancée Lourde’s college to share his good news and support her during an event. Encouraged by Lourde, Kirubakaran intervenes in a nearby student fight, leading to an incident where four students end up dead, and Kirubakaran, despite fainting at the sight of blood, is found with the murder weapon and sentenced to prison.
As the current Chief Minister, Sindhanai Rani, prepares to enter national politics, a new election for Chief Minister is on the horizon. Rathna’s elder brother, Jeyakodi, a famous actor and budding politician within the ruling SMDK party, aspires to claim that position. He is troubled by disruptions to his film screenings in various cities by supporters of his rival, Finance Minister Karmegam, who is also a contender for Chief Minister and leads a covert syndicate across Tamil Nadu. In a bid to decrease Karmegam’s influence within the party, Jeyakodi enlists Rathna’s help to eliminate four gangsters aligned with Karmegam.
This intriguing narrative intertwines themes of politics, crime, and filmmaking, promising audiences an engaging cinematic experience.
