Description: The 2007 Hindi film “Jhoom Barabar Jhoom” opens with a Romani gypsy-like musician (played by Amitabh Bachchan) leading a lively dance to the title song at London’s Waterloo Station. At the station, two strangers, Rakesh “Rikki” Thakkral (Abhishek Bachchan) and Alvira Khan (Preity Zinta), are waiting for their respective fiancés arriving on the same train. Rikki, a cheerful Punjabi from Bhatinda living in Southall, and Alvira, a refined Pakistani from Lahore, share a table at a café to pass the time. They start talking about how they met their partners.
Rikki recounts meeting his fiancée, Anaida Raza, at the Hôtel Ritz Paris on the same night Princess Diana and Dodi Al-Fayed left the hotel for their final journey. He believes their love story began that fateful night. Alvira, on the other hand, describes meeting her fiancé, the charming lawyer Steve Singh, at Madame Tussauds in London when he saved her from a falling Superman wax model. Their encounter led to a lawsuit and a life-changing romance.
As they chat, Rikki and Alvira grow closer, enjoying each other’s company despite their different backgrounds. They exchange numbers and part ways to meet their partners. However, it’s later revealed that Rikki was actually waiting for his business partner, and Alvira was meeting her relatives. After leaving the station, they realize they have developed feelings for each other but believe their love is unrequited.
Later, Alvira calls Rikki, pretending it was a wrong number, and they decide to meet at a disco hosting a dance competition. Both try to maintain their engagement façade, but in desperation, Rikki hires a prostitute, Laila (Lara Dutta), to pose as Anaida. The story unfolds with humor and unexpected twists as their connection deepens.
