**Storyline:**
In 1961, outgoing President Dwight D. Eisenhower warns about the rise of the “military-industrial complex” during his farewell address. He is succeeded by John F. Kennedy, whose presidency is marked by significant events like the Bay of Pigs Invasion and the Cuban Missile Crisis. However, Kennedy’s term ends tragically with his assassination in Dealey Plaza on November 22, 1963. Lee Harvey Oswald, the suspected assassin, is arrested for killing police officer J.D. Tippit but is later shot by Jack Ruby.
New Orleans District Attorney Jim Garrison and his team investigate potential local connections to the JFK assassination, including private pilot David Ferrie. Despite their efforts, the federal government dismisses their findings, leading Garrison to close the case temporarily.
In 1966, after reading the Warren Report and identifying what he believes are inaccuracies, Garrison reopens the investigation. His team interviews individuals linked to Oswald and Ferrie, including Willie O’Keefe, a male prostitute in prison. O’Keefe claims Ferrie discussed assassinating the President and that he had briefly met Oswald. He also mentions being romantically involved with a man named “Clay Bertrand.” Garrison’s team theorizes that Oswald was an intelligence agent framed for the assassination.
By 1967, Garrison and his staff gather testimonies from key witnesses, such as Jean Hill, a teacher who asserts she saw a shooter on the grassy knoll. She alleges that the Secret Service pressured her into changing her testimony, which was later altered by the Warren Commission. Garrison’s team also conducts tests, concluding that Oswald lacked the marksmanship to have acted alone, suggesting multiple shooters were involved. Ultimately, Garrison suspects that New Orleans businessman Clay Shaw is the same person as Bertrand.
