**Storyline:**
In 2019, in New York City, a young man purchases a book titled *Jersey* from a bookstall but decides to give it to a woman who comes in search of the same book. When questioned about his gesture, he explains that the book tells the story of his father, Arjun.
The narrative shifts to 1986 in Hyderabad, where Arjun, a highly skilled Ranji cricket player, is deeply in love with Sarah. Despite his talent, Arjun is repeatedly denied a spot in the Indian cricket team due to selection politics. Frustrated, he quits cricket and takes up a government job under the sports quota, only to lose it after being falsely accused of bribery.
Ten years later, in 1996, Arjun finds himself unemployed and constantly criticized by his wife, Sarah, for not fighting to reclaim his job, despite his innocence. Their seven-year-old son, Nani, who plays for his school cricket team, asks Arjun for an Indian cricket jersey as a birthday gift. Though Arjun cannot afford the ₹500 jersey, he promises to fulfill his son’s wish.
Desperate for money, Arjun consults a lawyer to regain his job but learns he must pay a fee, which he cannot afford. He then turns to his friends for financial help but meets with disappointment.
Arjun’s former coach, Murthy, approaches him with an offer to play in a charity match between the Hyderabad cricket team and New Zealand. Arjun is promised ₹1000 as a match fee and a potential assistant coaching job based on his performance. He delivers an outstanding performance in the match but later discovers there is no match fee. Overwhelmed by depression, Arjun lashes out and slaps Nani when he asks for the jersey again.
