Description: Jerry Maguire is a 1996 film that follows the life of a 35-year-old sports agent named Jerry Maguire, who works for Sports Management International (SMI). After a critical remark from the son of an injured player leads to a profound realization, Jerry writes a mission statement highlighting the lack of honesty in the sports management industry. He expresses his desire to focus on fewer clients to build more meaningful and caring relationships with them. However, SMI management, unhappy with his stance, sends Jerry’s protégé, Bob Sugar, to fire him. This leads to a fierce competition between Jerry and Sugar as they each attempt to persuade Jerry’s clients to stay with them.
One of Jerry’s clients is Rod Tidwell, a wide receiver for the Arizona Cardinals, who is unhappy with his current contract. Rod demands a $10 million deal to support his family, but Jerry warns him about the risks of injury and the potential loss of earnings. During a lengthy phone conversation, Rod tests Jerry’s commitment, while Sugar successfully convinces the rest of Jerry’s clients to remain with SMI.
After leaving SMI, Jerry decides to start his own agency and asks his colleagues to join him. Only Dorothy Boyd, a 26-year-old single mother, agrees to follow him. Initially, Jerry also retains Frank “Cush” Cushman, a highly-touted quarterback prospect, after visiting his family. However, Sugar manages to sway Cushman and his father to sign with SMI just before the NFL Draft.
Jerry’s personal life takes a turn as well. After a heated argument, he ends his engagement with his dissatisfied fiancée, Avery. Following this, he grows closer to Dorothy, forming a bond with her young son, Ray, and eventually begins a relationship with her. Despite receiving a secure job offer in San Diego, Dorothy decides to stay with Jerry, and the two get married.
