Description: Jeepers Creepers: Reborn, released in 2022, faced the daunting task of reviving a controversial franchise. On one hand, it needed to distance itself from the original creator, Victor Salva, whose history of pedophilia and the unsettling undertones in the series created discomfort. On the other hand, it had to satisfy loyal fans eager for the Creeper’s return after the disappointing Jeepers Creepers 3. This conflicting approach made Jeepers Creepers: Reborn an incoherent experience, as it struggled to reinvent the franchise while staying true to its roots. Unfortunately, this is just one of its many flaws, as the film ultimately fails to deliver, resulting in a dull and uninspired movie that appeals to no one.
Despite director Timo Vuorensola’s promises of a refreshed Creeper and a new direction, the film begins by rehashing the plot of the original movie. Additionally, it acknowledges Salva’s trilogy as fictional works within its timeline, attempting to both reinvent the mythology and pay homage to the past. This approach confuses rather than excites, alienating both those who boycott Salva and longtime fans. As a result, Jeepers Creepers: Reborn feels aimless and underwhelming, serving more as a cautionary tale for aspiring filmmakers than a satisfying horror experience.
The film’s visual execution is equally disappointing, with poor production quality that makes it difficult to watch. Overall, Jeepers Creepers: Reborn falls short of its potential, leaving audiences with a forgettable addition to the franchise.
