Description: In Edinburgh, Scotland in 1874, Jack is born on the coldest day ever. Due to the extreme cold, he is born with a frozen heart that doesn’t beat. The midwife Madeleine saves his life by replacing his heart with a fragile yet functional cuckoo clock. She warns him to follow three rules to avoid untimely death: never touch the clock’s hands, never lose his temper, and never fall in love. Jack’s mother, for reasons unknown, decides he would be better raised by Madeleine and leaves him in her care. Unable to have children of her own, Madeleine raises Jack as her own.
On Jack’s tenth birthday, Madeleine reminds him of the rules before taking him into town for the first time. There, he meets a girl named Miss Acacia and becomes infatuated with her. After starting school, he also encounters Joe, a bully who also loves Miss Acacia. Over the next four years, Joe and his gang torment Jack out of jealousy. During one attack, the cuckoo from Jack’s clock heart injures Joe’s eye, leaving Jack terrified and convinced he has killed him. Madeleine, believing Jack is now a fugitive, helps him escape.
Determined to reunite with Miss Acacia, Jack eventually crosses paths with Georges Méliès, a magician experimenting with an early film camera. Georges repairs Jack’s heart and joins him on the journey to find Miss Acacia. They travel to Andalusia, Spain, in pursuit of her.
After a long journey, they arrive at a circus in Andalusia. Jack finds Miss Acacia, but Georges advises him against revealing his identity. Jack befriends her but hesitates to express his feelings. She hints that her heart belongs to someone from her past, and it turns out that Jack is that person. Eventually, Jack finds the courage to reveal himself and gives Miss Acacia a key to wind his heart, symbolizing their reconnection.
