Description: The 2006 film *It’s a Boy Girl Thing* tells the story of Woody Deane (Kevin Zegers) and Nell Bedworth (Samaire Armstrong), neighbors and former childhood friends who now attend the same high school but couldn’t be more different. Woody is a popular football player, while Nell is a bookish girl with little social confidence. The two despise each other and are constantly at odds. During a school trip to a museum, they are paired together for an assignment, leading to a heated argument in front of a statue of the Aztec god Tezcatlipoca. Unknowingly, the statue casts a spell on them, causing them to wake up in each other’s bodies the next day.
Forced to navigate their new realities, they agree to impersonate each other until they can figure out how to switch back. However, their mutual resentment resurfaces as each feels the other is misrepresenting them. For instance, Woody, in Nell’s body, gives odd answers in class, while Nell, in Woody’s body, fails to perform well at football practice. Their rivalry escalates with acts of embarrassment: Nell dresses Woody’s body in “dorky” clothes, and Woody retaliates by dressing Nell’s body in provocative outfits.
The conflict intensifies when Nell, in Woody’s body, breaks up with Woody’s girlfriend, Breanna (Brooke D’Orsay). Woody, in Nell’s body, further complicates things by going out with a biker boy, Nicky (Brandon Carrera), and making Nell fear she might lose her virginity. However, Woody backs out at the last minute, admitting it feels “too awkward.”
The next day, rumors spread at school about Nell’s night with Nicky, causing Nell significant distress. Woody eventually confesses that nothing happened and that the rumors were just lies. As the story unfolds, Woody and Nell must learn to understand each other’s lives and perspectives, leading to unexpected personal growth and a deeper connection.
