Description: In modern-day San Francisco, journalist Daniel Molloy conducts an interview with Louis de Pointe du Lac, who claims to be a vampire. Louis recounts his life as a wealthy plantation owner in 1791 Spanish Louisiana. Overwhelmed by grief after losing his wife and unborn child, he aimlessly wanders the New Orleans waterfront one night, where he encounters the vampire Lestat de Lioncourt. Sensing Louis’s despair, Lestat offers to transform him into a vampire. Louis agrees but soon regrets his decision. While Lestat embraces the thrill of hunting and killing humans, Louis struggles with his instincts, choosing to survive on animal blood instead. Disgusted by Lestat’s cruelty, Louis endures immense suffering as a vampire.
Amid a plague outbreak in New Orleans, Louis succumbs to his hunger and feeds on a young girl whose mother had died from the disease. To persuade Louis to stay, Lestat turns the dying girl, Claudia, into a vampire. The trio forms an unconventional family, with Louis acting as a loving father to Claudia, while Lestat trains her to be a ruthless killer. Decades pass, and Claudia matures mentally but remains physically a child, fueling her resentment. Realizing she will never grow into adulthood, she becomes enraged with Lestat and convinces Louis to leave him. Claudia plots against Lestat, weakening him with poisoned blood and slitting his throat. Despite his shock, Louis assists Claudia in disposing of Lestat’s body in a swamp. The story explores themes of immortality, morality, and the complex relationships between the characters.
