**Storyline:**
Five days after the Erudite leader, Jeanine (Kate Winslet), and her mind-controlled Dauntless soldiers attack the Abnegation faction, Jeanine imposes martial law, declaring Divergents and their allies as enemies. Amid the ruins of Abnegation, Dauntless leaders Max (Mekhi Phifer) and Eric (Jai Courtney) discover a box adorned with symbols of all five factions. Jeanine believes it holds vital data from the city’s founders and a solution to the Divergence crisis. Since only Divergents can open the box, she orders their capture.
The 17-year-old Divergent Tris (Shailene Woodley); her boyfriend, Four (Theo James); her brother Caleb (Ansel Elgort); and the rebellious Peter (Miles Teller) seek refuge in the Amity compound under Johanna’s (Octavia Spencer) leadership. When Eric arrives to test everyone for Divergence, Peter betrays their location, forcing the group to flee onto a train bound for Factionless territory.
Four reveals his true identity, Tobias Eaton, to the Factionless, acknowledging his estranged mother, Evelyn (Naomi Watts). Despite her proposal for an alliance between Dauntless and Factionless against Erudite, Four refuses. The group then heads to Candor, where the remaining Dauntless, including Tori (Maggie Q) and Tris’s friend Christina (Zoë Kravitz), are sheltered.
However, Tris and Four are arrested by Candor leader Jack Kang (Daniel Dae Kim), who plans to hand them over to Jeanine. Four insists on a trial using Candor’s truth serum, which clears them of wrongdoing. Nonetheless, Tris confesses to killing Christina’s lover, Will, deepening the rift between them.
**The Divergent Series: Insurgent** continues the struggle for survival and resistance against oppression.
