Description: In 1953, Elise Rainier resides in Five Keys, New Mexico, with her parents, Audrey and Gerald, and her younger brother, Christian. One night, Elise and Christian encounter a ghost in their bedroom. Terrified, Christian searches for a whistle their mother gave him for emergencies but cannot locate it. Gerald, enraged, punishes Elise by locking her in the basement. While there, Elise opens a mysterious red door and is briefly possessed by a demonic spirit, leading to Audrey’s death at the hands of the demon.
Years later, in 2010 California, Elise works as a paranormal investigator alongside her assistants, Specs and Tucker. She receives a call from Ted Garza, who reports paranormal activity in his home, which Elise recognizes as her childhood residence. During the investigation, she discovers Christian’s lost whistle, but it vanishes after she encounters a female spirit. Elise recalls seeing this spirit as a child when she fled the house, abandoning Christian to avoid further abuse from their father.
Elise, Specs, and Tucker meet Melissa and Imogen, Christian’s daughters. Christian remains resentful toward Elise for leaving him. In an attempt to mend their relationship, Elise gives Melissa a photo of the whistle, asking her to show it to Christian. Meanwhile, Elise and Tucker uncover a hidden room in the basement, guided by the female spirit. They find a young woman held captive, and Ted admits to his crimes, locking the group in and attempting to kill Specs, who ultimately defends himself by killing Ted.
After the police investigate, Christian and his daughters enter the house to locate the whistle. Melissa is attacked by the demon from Elise’s past, known as “Key Face,” who sends her into a coma, trapping her consciousness in the spirit realm known as “The Further.”
