Description: The movie “Infernal Affairs II,” released in 2003, is set in 1991 Hong Kong, where police inspector Wong Chi-shing interacts with his informant, Hon Sam. Simultaneously, Lau Kin-ming, Hon’s mole within the Royal Hong Kong Police Force, kills Hon’s triad boss, Ngai Kwun. Lau is later approached by Hon’s wife, Mary, who subtly confirms his commitment to their mission. She reveals that she orchestrated Ngai’s assassination without Hon’s knowledge and urges Lau to keep quiet. Mary aims for Hon to take over as the triad leader.
At the same time, police academy instructors discover that cadet Chan Wing-yan, the troubled half-brother of Ngai’s heir, Ngai Wing-hau, is dismissed from the force. Chan is later recruited as an undercover cop by Wong and sent to prison to infiltrate Hon’s gang. Meanwhile, Ngai replaces his father as triad boss, confronting the “Big Four” underbosses who initially dismiss him. Using blackmail, Ngai forces them to comply, with Hon acting as an agent provocateur.
By 1995, Chan becomes a minor gangster while Lau advances as a rookie cop. Chan’s association with Hon and Ngai leads his girlfriend to have an abortion, fearing their child would follow Chan’s path. Ngai invites Chan to his daughter’s birthday party, expressing his desire to retire in Hawaii and divide his business among the Big Four, while handing control of a Thai cocaine operation to Hon.
