**Storyline:**
Two decades after the intense interstellar war against alien invaders, the United Nations established the Earth Space Defense (ESD). This global defense and research initiative focuses on reverse-engineering alien technology and acts as Earth’s early warning system against extraterrestrial threats. Following the human victory over the aliens, civilization was rebuilt, and major cities like Washington D.C. were modernized using combined technologies. The ESD, headquartered at Area 51, expanded its presence with bases on the Moon, Mars, and Rhea, along with orbital defense satellites to safeguard Earth from future invasions.
ESD Director David Levinson collaborates with warlord Dikembe Umbutu and Dr. Catherine Marceaux in the African state of Republique Nationale d’Umbutu. They investigate a landed alien saucer, discovering the aliens had been drilling and sending a distress signal to their homeworld before their defeat. Individuals like former U.S. President Thomas Whitmore, Dr. Brackish Okun, and Umbutu, who previously encountered the aliens, find themselves telepathically connected to the aliens’ collective consciousness and begin having visions of an unknown spherical object.
When a mysterious spherical ship emerges from a wormhole near the Moon, it is destroyed by the Security Council despite Levinson’s objections. Defying orders, American pilots Jake Morrison and Charlie Miller rescue Levinson, Marceaux, Umbutu, and U.S. federal controller Floyd Rosenberg, transporting them to the Van de Graaff crater. There, they recover a large container. However, an alien mothership suddenly arrives in response to the distress signal, decimating much of Earth’s defense systems.
