The story follows Dua, a young Pakistani-American woman aspiring to become a professional dancer. Supported by her father, Majeed, a Chicago police officer, Dua prepares for her Juilliard audition by training in Kathak, a dance form her late mother once mastered. When Majeed’s father unexpectedly visits from Pakistan, Dua is forced to confront her American identity, while memories of her mother’s death resurface. The visit also inspires Majeed to reconnect with his local mosque and Muslim community. However, his involvement takes a complicated turn when his new police assignment requires him to surveil members of the same community, leading to challenges that impact the entire family.
Through its portrayal of cultural identity, family dynamics, and moral dilemmas, “I’ll Meet You There” offers a poignant look at the struggles and resilience of a Pakistani-American family navigating their dual heritage.
