Description: Mia Hall and her family are preparing for their usual daily routine when they hear on the radio that school is canceled due to snow. Since Mia’s father, Denny, is a teacher, he doesn’t have to go to work. Her mother, Kat, a travel agent, decides to take the day off as well. Along with Mia’s younger brother, Teddy, they plan to visit Mia’s grandparents at their farm.
The narrative shifts to Mia’s childhood, highlighting her early fascination with the cello. Growing up with a rockstar father and a young mother, Mia discovers her love for the instrument during a music class. Recognizing her passion, her parents hire a tutor to nurture her talent. Around this time, Kat becomes pregnant with Teddy, whom Mia believes led to her father leaving his band.
Years later, teenage Mia continues to excel in playing the cello. One day, Adam Wilde, a popular student and aspiring musician, notices her practicing and becomes curious about her. Through Mia’s best friend, Kim, Adam learns more about her and eventually asks her out on a date to a cello recital, where they share their first kiss.
Returning to the present, the family is on their way to the grandparents’ farm when their car collides with an oncoming truck. Mia experiences an out-of-body moment, finding herself barefoot and witnessing the accident scene. As paramedics rush to help her family, she tries to communicate with them but realizes she is invisible and unheard. At the hospital, Mia is overwhelmed with anxiety as she is taken into surgery, unsure of her family’s condition.
