Description: Jennifer Hills, a short story writer from Manhattan, rents a secluded cottage in Kent, Connecticut, near the Housatonic River to work on her first novel. Her arrival attracts the attention of Johnny Stillman, the local gas station manager, and two unemployed men, Stanley Woods and Andy Chirensky. Matthew Duncan, a mentally disabled grocery deliveryman, also befriends Jennifer. He reports back to the others, claiming he saw her breasts, sparking their predatory interest.
Stanley and Andy begin stalking Jennifer, circling her cottage in their boat and prowling around her property at night. One day, the men ambush her, revealing they planned the attack so Matthew could lose his virginity. Jennifer fights back, but they overpower her, tear off her bikini, and restrain her. Matthew refuses to participate out of respect and pity for her, so Johnny and Andy take turns raping her. After she manages to crawl back to her house, they attack her again. This time, Matthew, fueled by alcohol, also assaults her. The men mock her writing, rip apart her manuscript, and Stanley inflicts further violence on her. Jennifer loses consciousness, and Johnny, fearing she could testify against them, orders Matthew to kill her. Unable to go through with it, Matthew smears her blood on the knife and lies to the others, claiming she is dead.
In the aftermath, Jennifer, deeply traumatized, begins to rebuild her life and her manuscript. She visits a church, seeking forgiveness for the revenge she plans to take. When the men discover Jennifer is still alive, they beat Matthew for deceiving them. Jennifer, anticipating their next move, places a grocery order, knowing Matthew will be the one to deliver it.
