Description: Nursing assistant Ruth comes home after a tough day at work only to discover her house has been burglarized. She reports to the police that the thief stole her medication, her grandmother’s silverware, and a laptop. When she seeks advice from Detective William Bendix, he simply scolds her for leaving her door unlocked. Ruth asks her neighbors if they noticed anything unusual, and one of them, Tony, becomes furious that someone would victimize a neighbor. After a mobile app reveals the location of her laptop and the police refuse to act, Ruth decides to take matters into her own hands and enlists Tony’s help.
Ruth and Tony track the laptop to its location, where Ruth confronts the person in possession of it and forces them to return it. The individual claims they purchased the laptop from a fence who runs a resale shop. The next morning, Ruth and Tony investigate the shop, where they find the stolen silverware and encounter a man whose shoe matches a footprint left in Ruth’s yard. A confrontation ensues with the shop owner, who demands payment for the silverware. When he breaks Ruth’s finger, Tony knocks him out, and the two flee the scene.
Tony later researches the license plate number of the thief’s van and discovers it’s registered to someone named Christian Rumack. Ruth and Tony pretend to be police officers at the address associated with the van. A woman named Meredith lets them inside and explains that her husband, Chris, owns the van, but it’s actually used by her stepson, who was given the van by his father. Chris suddenly returns home with his bodyguard, Cesar. Ruth explains she only wants to confront Christian about his actions, but Chris mocks her idealism and forces them to leave. As they depart, Ruth steals some lawn decorations from Chris and Meredith. Disillusioned by Ruth’s behavior, Tony decides to return home, leaving Ruth on her own.
