Description: In the 1980s, during the peak of the military dictatorship, KCIA Foreign Unit chief Park Pyong-ho (Lee Jung-jae) and Domestic Unit chief Kim Jung-do (Jung Woo-sung) are stationed in Washington D.C., tasked with protecting the president. While on patrol, the CIA alerts them to an enemy sniper. Park and Kim manage to neutralize the sniper. Following this incident, the KCIA director informs them about a North Korean mole within their organization, codenamed Donglim. Intelligence from the CIA reveals that Donglim is a dangerous North Korean spy attempting to assassinate the South Korean president. Meanwhile, a North Korean nuclear physicist in Japan seeks asylum in South Korea.
Park’s team carries out an operation in Tokyo to facilitate the physicist’s defection, but it ends in failure. Both teams then begin their separate pursuits of Donglim. Through extensive investigation, they uncover startling truths about each other. Kim, who is not Donglim but has his own motives, plans to assassinate the president due to his disillusionment with the Gwangju Democratic Movement and the massacre of innocent civilians. Park, however, is revealed to be the real Donglim.
After escaping the agents’ pursuit, Park meets with an informant to receive his next orders but is shocked to discover that the mission is not what he expected—completing it will lead to his death. Realizing the dangers, Kim decides to collaborate with Park to eliminate the president. Kim saves Park from North Korean agents and helps conceal his identity.
In Bangkok, Thailand, North Korean snipers and Kim prepare for the assassination attempt. As the president arrives, Kim fires a shot, but Park intervenes, causing the attempt to fail. Meanwhile, a North Korean agent detonates a bomb as a last resort. The president narrowly escapes, but Kim is caught in the explosion and dies.
