Siblings Carly and Nick Jones, along with their friends Wade, Paige, Blake, and Dalton Chapman, are traveling to a football game in Louisiana. The night before the game, they set up camp in a field. A stranger in a pickup truck arrives but leaves after Nick damages one of his headlights. The next morning, Wade discovers his car’s fan belt is broken, and Carly accidentally falls into a pit filled with decaying animal remains. After rescuing her, the group encounters Lester, who offers to drive Carly and Wade to the nearby town of Ambrose for a replacement fan belt while the others continue to the game.
In Ambrose, Carly and Wade find the town eerily deserted. They witness a funeral at the church and meet Bo Sinclair, who agrees to sell them a fan belt after the service. While waiting, they explore “Trudy’s House of Wax,” a wax museum that is itself constructed entirely of wax and serves as the town’s main attraction. Following Bo to his home, they meet his twin brother Vincent, who wears a wax mask to hide facial scars from where the twins were once conjoined.
Vincent incapacitates Wade and knocks him unconscious. Carly notices that Bo’s truck has a broken headlight, realizing he was the stranger from the campsite. Bo captures Carly, restraining her in the basement of the gas station and sealing her lips shut with glue. Meanwhile, Vincent covers Wade’s body in hot wax.
When their friends fail to reach the game on time, Paige and Blake return to the campsite, while Nick and Dalton search for Carly and Wade in Ambrose. Carly tries to alert Nick, but Bo cuts off part of her finger. She manages to tear her lips open and scream for help. Nick fights off Bo and frees Carly, while Dalton discovers Wade encased in wax. In an attempt to help, Dalton peels the wax from Wade’s face, unintentionally removing his skin.
The group must now confront the terrifying reality of the town and the sinister brothers who control it.
