Description: Hotel Transylvania: Transformania, also known as Hotel Transylvania 4, is a 2022 American computer-animated monster comedy film produced by Sony Pictures Animation and released by Amazon Studios. Serving as the fourth and final installment in the Hotel Transylvania franchise, it follows the events of Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation (2018). Directed by Jennifer Kluska and Derek Drymon in their feature-length directorial debuts, the screenplay was written by Amos Vernon, Nunzio Randazzo, and Genndy Tartakovsky, who directed the previous three films.
The movie features voice performances from Andy Samberg, Selena Gomez (who also served as an executive producer alongside Tartakovsky), Kathryn Hahn, Jim Gaffigan, Steve Buscemi, Molly Shannon, David Spade, Keegan-Michael Key, Brian Hull, Fran Drescher, Brad Abrell, and Asher Blinkoff.
Originally set for a theatrical release in the United States on October 1, 2021, Sony Pictures Releasing canceled its release due to the surge in COVID-19 Delta variant cases. The distribution rights were then sold to Amazon Studios for $100 million. The film premiered exclusively on Amazon Prime Video on January 14, 2022, globally, except in China, where Sony planned a theatrical release at a later date.
Development for the fourth film was announced by Sony Pictures Animation in February 2019. By October 2019, Genndy Tartakovsky confirmed he would not direct the film but later joined as a screenwriter and executive producer. Jennifer Kluska and Derek Drymon, both experienced in animation and known for their work on SpongeBob SquarePants and Adventure Time, were confirmed as directors in September 2020. Production was conducted remotely during the COVID-19 pandemic, and in April 2021, the film’s title, Hotel Transylvania: Transformania, was officially revealed, marking the conclusion of the series.
