Description: Hot Tub Time Machine, released in 2010, follows the story of three estranged and troubled friends—Adam Yates, who was recently dumped by his girlfriend; Nick Webber-Agnew, a neglected husband stuck in a dead-end job; and Lou Dorchen, a middle-aged alcoholic struggling with unemployment. The trio reconnects when Lou is hospitalized for carbon monoxide poisoning. To lift his spirits, Adam and Nick arrange a trip to Kodiak Valley Ski Resort, a place they frequented during their younger years, accompanied by Adam’s laid-back nephew Jacob. However, upon arrival, they find the town and the resort in a state of decay.
During a night of heavy drinking in their hotel room’s hot tub, the four accidentally spill an illegal Russian energy drink called “Chernobly” on the tub’s control panel. The next day, they discover they’ve been transported back to 1986. While Adam, Lou, and Nick have reverted to their younger selves, Jacob remains unchanged since he hadn’t been born yet, though he occasionally flickers.
A mysterious hot tub repairman warns them not to alter any events to avoid disrupting the timeline. To minimize the butterfly effect, they decide to relive their past experiences. Adam must break up with his girlfriend Jenny and endure getting stabbed in the eye with a fork; Lou must confront and be beaten by a ski patrol bully named Blaine; and Nick must perform “Careless Whisper” with his band at an open mic event and have an encounter with a groupie. Along the way, they encounter Jacob’s mother, Kelly, who is struggling with addiction and is also at the resort.
The film blends humor and nostalgia as the group navigates their time-bending adventure at the ski resort.
