Description: **Honey, I Shrunk the Kids (1989) – Summary**
Inventive scientist Wayne Szalinski has created a ray gun designed to shrink objects, but it malfunctions. His wife Diane, who works to support the family, is worried about his obsession. Their teenage daughter Amy and younger son Nick, who shares his father’s creative spirit, are also affected.
The neighboring Thompsons are preparing for a fishing trip, but their eldest son, Russ Jr., is not excited about it, which causes tension with his father. When Wayne leaves for a conference, Ron Thompson accidentally breaks a window with a baseball, activating Wayne’s machine and causing the kids to shrink. Russ Jr. is forced to reveal the incident to Amy and Nick.
While trying to retrieve the ball from the attic, Ron and Nick activate the machine, and soon Amy and Russ Jr. are shrunk as well. At his conference, Wayne is mocked for not having proof of his invention. He returns home and, preoccupied, doesn’t notice his kids’ attempts to get his attention. They only manage to get noticed by the family dog, Quark. Frustrated, Wayne accidentally breaks the machine and cleans up the remnants, unknowingly adding the shrunken children to the trash.
The kids manage to escape and find themselves in the backyard, needing to traverse the tall grass to return home. Meanwhile, Diane and Wayne become increasingly worried about their children’s whereabouts. Eventually, Wayne realizes what has happened and accidentally sets off the yard sprinklers while searching for them.
