**Storyline:**
The McCallister family plans to spend Christmas in Miami and gathers at Peter and Kate’s home in Chicago. Their youngest son, Kevin, feels Florida isn’t festive enough due to its lack of Christmas trees. During a school pageant, Kevin’s brother Buzz plays a prank on him, leading Kevin to punch Buzz and ruin the show. Buzz offers a fake apology, but Kevin lashes out, accusing his family of believing Buzz’s lies and declaring he doesn’t care about their trip. He storms off to the attic, wishing for a solo vacation. The next morning, the family oversleeps and rushes to catch their flight.
At the airport, Kevin gets separated from his family and accidentally boards a plane to New York City. Once there, he decides to explore the city. In Central Park, he encounters a homeless woman caring for pigeons, which frightens him. Kevin then checks into the Plaza Hotel using his father’s credit card. Meanwhile, the bumbling criminals Harry and Marv, who recently escaped from prison, arrive in New York and start planning their next scheme.
On Christmas Eve, Kevin visits a toy store and meets its generous owner, Mr. Duncan. He learns that the store’s holiday sales benefit a children’s hospital and makes a donation. Grateful, Mr. Duncan gifts Kevin a pair of ceramic turtledoves, encouraging him to share one as a symbol of friendship. Later, Kevin crosses paths with Harry and Marv outside the store. They confront him, boasting about their plan to kill him and rob the toy store at midnight. Kevin narrowly escapes and races back to the Plaza, only to be confronted by the concierge about the stolen credit card. Kevin flees again, narrowly avoiding Harry and Marv’s ambush.
