The story revolves around Neha and Anuja, two young women living in a strict patriarchal household. Their lives are marked by submissiveness and resilience, as they endure harsh treatment from male family members for pursuing their careers or returning late from work. One day, they are assigned as census enumerators and sent to remote villages. During their journey, they decide to visit a peculiar household in a distant village. Upon arrival, they quickly sense something unsettling about the family and leave.
However, they cannot ignore the visible scars on Prerna, a childlike young woman, which reopen old wounds. After much persuasion, Neha agrees to Anuja’s plan to return and thoroughly inspect the house. They discover a heavily pregnant Prerna, who is clearly struggling with mental health issues. The family, led by the sociopathic patriarch Ghanshyam, is portrayed as a personification of cruelty. Despite his devout prayers, Ghanshyam’s narcissistic God complex is evident as he mercilessly carries out heinous crimes within his home, dubbed the “house of terrors.”
Directed by Pushkar Mahabal and written by Ankita Narang, “Welcome Home” juxtaposes eerie silence with the brutal and senseless acts committed by Ghanshyam and his eccentric cook, Bhola, creating a chilling narrative.
