Description: Alex “Hitch” Hitchens (played by Will Smith) is a professional “date doctor” who specializes in coaching men on the art of winning over women, with a focus on fostering meaningful, long-term relationships. He excels in his field. While mentoring one of his clients, Albert Brennaman (Kevin James), who is infatuated with Allegra Cole (Amber Valletta), a high-profile client of his investment firm, Hitch unexpectedly falls for Sara Melas (Eva Mendes), a skeptical and hardworking gossip columnist. Despite his expertise, Hitch struggles to connect with Sara, as his usual romantic tactics prove ineffective. Throughout their interactions, he conceals his true profession, presenting himself as a “consultant.”
Meanwhile, Hitch encounters Vance Munson (Jeffrey Donovan), a shallow womanizer who attempts to hire Hitch to help him pursue a one-night stand with Casey Sedgewick (Julie Ann Emery), Sara’s best friend. Although Hitch declines, Vance misleads Sara into believing he was aided by Hitch. When Sara discovers Hitch’s true identity, she exposes him in a scathing article, which damages his reputation, leads to Albert’s arrest for vandalizing a newspaper office, and causes Allegra to break up with Albert.
At a speed dating event, Sara and Casey confront Hitch, citing Vance as their source. Hitch explains that he refused to work with such men and that his services aim to help genuine men navigate the challenges of forming authentic connections in a world where women often guard themselves due to past experiences.
After reflecting on his approach to love, Hitch decides to mend Albert and Allegra’s relationship. He learns that his role is not about creating love but rather boosting his clients’ confidence, allowing them to naturally attract the women they care about. This realization underscores the importance of sincerity in relationships, shifting Hitch’s perspective on his profession.
