The story follows the magical duo Goopy Gyne and Bagha Byne, who are invited to the court of Hirak Raja, the Diamond King, to perform at his kingdom’s anniversary celebrations. Tired of their lives as crown princes of Shundi and Halla, they eagerly accept the opportunity to visit Hirak, known for its vast diamond mines.
However, upon arrival, they discover the tyrannical rule of the Hirak King, played by Utpal Dutt, who hoards diamonds while his people suffer in poverty. Those who oppose him are subjected to brainwashing in a chamber called the “Jantarmantar,” designed by a scientist mocked by the king. The only resistance comes from Udayan Pandit, a schoolteacher played by Soumitra Chatterjee.
Goopy and Bagha encounter Udayan, who reveals the king’s cruelty. Impressed by their magical abilities, Udayan plans to use them to overthrow the tyrant. The duo infiltrates the kingdom, wins the king’s trust, and uses their magical music to steal diamonds from the treasury, guarded by a tiger, to bribe the guards.
This film is a sequel to the beloved story of Goopy and Bagha, blending music, magic, and social commentary.
