Description: Her Blue Sky is a 2019 animated film that tells a heartfelt story set in Chichibu. Akane Aioi, a third-year high school student, is in a relationship with Shinnosuke Kanamuro, known as Shinno, who dreams of becoming a guitarist. Shinno is also close to Akane’s younger sister, Aoi, and the sisters often support his band. Akane and Shinno plan to move to Tokyo after graduation, where Shinno hopes to pursue a music career. However, their lives take a tragic turn when Akane and Aoi’s parents die in a car accident. Akane decides to stay in Chichibu to raise Aoi, putting her own plans on hold.
Thirteen years later, Aoi is now a high school student with aspirations of becoming a bassist and moving to Tokyo. Akane works at the city hall, alongside Masamichi Nakamura, nicknamed Michinko, who was the drummer in Shinno’s former band. Michinko organizes a music festival to promote tourism in Chichibu, featuring the famous enka singer Dankichi Nitobe as the main performer.
One day, while practicing bass alone, Aoi unexpectedly encounters Shinno, exactly as he was thirteen years ago. Startled, she confides in Akane, who admits she hasn’t heard from Shinno since he left and isn’t even sure if he’s still alive. Aoi begins to believe she might have seen Shinno’s ghost. Later, the sisters assist Michinko in welcoming Dankichi Nitobe and are shocked to discover that the grown-up Shinno is now Nitobe’s guitarist. Aoi returns to the hall with her friend Tsugu and confirms that the younger Shinno has a physical presence but is somehow trapped there.
