Description: The film “Hellphone” (2007) follows Sid Soupir, who admires his dream girl, Angie. Encouraged by his friend Pierre (Tiger), Sid decides to impress Angie with his skateboarding skills. Initially successful in catching her attention, he eventually crashes into a vegetable cart. Angie’s friends, Margot and Clemence, laugh at the mishap, but Angie helps Sid to his feet. Sid attempts to make plans with her while her sort-of boyfriend, Virgile, watches from a distance. When Angie asks for Sid’s phone number, he admits he doesn’t own a cellphone. Tiger intervenes, fabricating a story about Sid canceling his phone plan due to a supposedly obsessive ex-girlfriend. Unimpressed, Angie’s friends lead her away.
Determined to buy a phone, Sid requests an advance on his birthday money from his mother, who can only spare €30. He then asks his boss, Mr. Fritz, at the fast-food restaurant where he works, for an early paycheck but is denied. With his limited funds, Sid visits a shop owned by Patrick Vo and purchases an unusual red cellphone with horns. The phone mysteriously comes to life in his hands, surprising the shopkeeper, who attempts to reclaim it for a higher price. Sid escapes with the device.
At school, Sid proudly shows off the phone to Tiger, who is amazed by its features. Meanwhile, Clemence boasts about her successful audition. Sid gathers the courage to ask Angie for her number, but Clemence and Margot mock his new phone and take Angie away, leaving Sid disappointed.
