The plot revolves around the “Three Musketeers”—Pradosh C. Mitter (Feluda), his cousin Topshe, and their friend Lalmohan Ganguly (Jatayu). Seeking relief from the sweltering heat and humidity of Calcutta in June, exacerbated by frequent power outages, the trio travels to Puri for a vacation. They stay at the Neelachal Hotel, owned by Shyamlal Barik, a classmate of Lalmohan Babu’s landlord.
During an evening stroll on the beach, they notice unusual footprints in the sand. Later, Lalmohan Babu meets an astrologer named Laxman Bhattacharya, who is said to possess extrasensory perception. Laxman resides in a building called “Sagarika,” owned by a mysterious man known as D.G. Sen. Shyamlal informs them that Sen is an avid collector of rare manuscripts.
The next morning, while walking along the beach, Topshe and Lalmohan Babu discover a dead body, later identified as Rupchand Singh, a man from Nepal. They inform Feluda, who alerts the police. Feluda arranges a meeting with D.G. Sen, and en route to Sagarika, they encounter Inspector Mahapatra, whom Feluda knows from a previous case. The inspector reveals that Singh was shot, but the weapon is missing.
At Sagarika, they meet Nisith Bose, Sen’s secretary, who shares that his employer, Durga Gati Sen, suffers from gout. Sen, an eccentric collector, shows them his prized manuscripts, including rare texts like the *Ashtadashasahasrika Pragya Paramita* and *Kalpasutra*. He emphasizes that he does not sell these artifacts.
Later, the trio meets Bilas Majumdar, a renowned wildlife photographer, who shares his story. As the investigation into Singh’s death unfolds, the mystery deepens, intertwining the lives of these characters in unexpected ways.
