After burying Dobby, Harry Potter seeks the assistance of Griphook, a goblin, to break into Bellatrix Lestrange’s vault at Gringotts bank. Alongside Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, Harry suspects a Horcrux is hidden there. Griphook agrees to help in exchange for the Sword of Gryffindor. Meanwhile, wandmaker Ollivander informs Harry that Draco Malfoy’s wand has shifted its allegiance to Harry after he captured it. Inside Bellatrix’s vault, they discover Helga Hufflepuff’s cup, a Horcrux. However, Griphook betrays them, taking the sword and leaving them stranded. They narrowly escape by releasing the vault’s dragon guardian and fleeing on its back.
Back at Hogwarts, Severus Snape learns of Harry’s return and warns against aiding him. Harry confronts Snape, who escapes during a duel with Professor McGonagall. McGonagall rallies the Hogwarts community for an impending battle. Guided by Luna Lovegood, Harry speaks to Helena Ravenclaw’s ghost, who reveals that Voldemort has corrupted her mother’s diadem with dark magic, hiding it in the Room of Requirement. In the Chamber of Secrets, Ron and Hermione destroy the Horcrux cup using a Basilisk fang.
In the Room of Requirement, Draco Malfoy, Blaise Zabini, and Gregory Goyle ambush Harry. During the confrontation, Goyle unleashes an uncontrollable Fiendfyre curse, tragically resulting in his death. Harry, Ron, and Hermione manage to save Draco and Blaise, escaping on brooms. Outside, Harry destroys the diadem with the Basilisk fang, and Ron throws it into the inferno.
As Voldemort’s army launches an attack, Harry, peering into Voldemort’s mind, realizes that Nagini, Voldemort’s snake, is the final Horcrux. In the boathouse, the trio overhears Voldemort instructing Snape that the Elder Wand’s power can only be fully transferred after Snape’s death. Nagini then fatally attacks Snape, setting the stage for the final confrontation between Harry and Voldemort.
