Description: Harold and Maude, a 1971 film, tells the story of Harold Chasen, a 19-year-old with a fascination for death. He stages fake suicides, attends strangers’ funerals, and drives a hearse, much to the dismay of his wealthy, self-centered mother. Despite her efforts to set him up with a psychoanalyst and arrange unwanted dates, Harold remains emotionally distant. His life changes when he meets Maude, a 79-year-old woman with a vibrant and carefree outlook. They bond over their shared habit of attending funerals, and Maude introduces Harold to the joys of art, music, and living life to the fullest. Their friendship deepens as Harold’s mother tries to push him into a conventional life, including marriage and military service, but Harold continues to rebel in his own unique way. Through their conversations, Harold reveals the reason behind his staged suicides: a childhood incident where an explosion led people to mistakenly believe he had died. The film explores themes of life, death, and the pursuit of happiness.
