**Storyline:**
Conor O’Neill, portrayed by Keanu Reeves, is a gambler who secretly bets $6,000 from his deceased father’s account, leaving him deeply in debt to two bookies. To settle his debts, a corporate friend offers him a deal: coach a struggling African-American fifth-grade baseball team from Chicago’s ABLA housing projects for ten weeks, earning $500 weekly.
Initially focused solely on his paycheck, Conor meets a ragtag group of street-smart, inner-city kids. The team includes Andre Ray Peetes, a sharp-tongued yet insightful captain who forms a connection with Conor; Kofi Evans, a talented but troubled player with a quick temper; Jefferson Albert Tibbs, a kind-hearted, overweight boy with asthma; Jamal, Andre’s best friend and the oldest member; Miles Penfield II, a skilled pitcher who listens to The Notorious B.I.G. to perform; and Jarius “G-Baby” Evans, Kofi’s younger brother, who assists Conor despite being too young to play.
Conor faces challenges from the start, including a shortage of players and pressure from his bookies to repay his gambling debts.
