Description: Happy New Year 2014 is an action-packed Bollywood film. The story follows Chandramohan “Charlie” Manohar Sharma, played by Shah Rukh Khan, a street fighter seeking revenge against the wealthy businessman Charan Grover, portrayed by Jackie Shroff. Charlie’s father, Manohar Sharma (Anupam Kher), was falsely accused of theft by Grover, who framed him for stealing his own diamonds worth $15 million. Determined to settle the score, Charlie discovers that emeralds valued at 300 crore ($39.48 million) will arrive at Dubai’s Atlantis Hotel on Christmas Eve. He plans to steal them and frame Grover for the crime.
To execute this daring heist, Charlie assembles a team of skilled individuals. The group includes Ex-Captain Jagmohan “Jag” Prakash (Sonu Sood), a strongman with hearing difficulties, Tehamton “Tammy” Irani (Boman Irani), an elderly safecracker prone to seizures and Manohar’s close friend, Rohan Singh (Vivaan Shah), a tech-savvy young hacker, and Nandu Bhide (Abhishek Bachchan), who looks identical to Grover’s son, Vicky. Tammy is the only one capable of opening the vault. The team learns that room 9C, connected to the vault via a duct system, is reserved for participants of the World Dance Championship (WDC). Initially reluctant, Charlie convinces the group to form a dance team to gain access to the vault.
The film flashes back to the past, revealing how Grover manipulated Manohar into building an impenetrable vault and later drugged him to stage the diamond theft. Back in the present, the team struggles to master dance moves despite hiring multiple instructors. In a desperate move, Nandu introduces Charlie to Mohini Joshi (Deepika Padukone), a talented Marathi bar dancer. Impressed by Charlie’s fluency in English, Mohini agrees to train them, unaware of their true intentions. As the team progresses, Charlie and Mohini grow closer emotionally.
The team manages to qualify for the competition by blackmailing the judges with compromising photos and ultimately wins the national round to represent Team India in the WDC, thanks to hacking the voting system. Despite public criticism of their lack of dancing skills, Charlie and his team remain focused solely on their mission to complete the heist. The film blends action, drama, and dance into an entertaining narrative.
