Description: Guzaarish is a 2010 film that tells the story of Ethan Mascarenhas, a former magician who becomes a quadriplegic after a tragic accident. Despite his condition, Ethan brings joy and inspiration to others as a Radio Jockey on Radio Zindagi. His show is filled with humor and optimism, making it hard to believe that he has been paralyzed for fourteen years. Sofia D’Souza, his dedicated nurse, has been by his side for twelve years, providing care and support.
On the anniversary of his accident, Ethan makes a bold decision: he petitions the court for mercy killing. With the help of his close friend and lawyer, Devyani Dutta, he prepares his case. Surprisingly, Ethan’s mother, Isabel Mascarenhas, supports his decision, standing by her son’s side. Even his physician, Dr. Nayak, who initially opposed the idea, eventually agrees to support Ethan after realizing the depth of his friend’s suffering.
Meanwhile, a young man named Omar Siddiqui enters Ethan’s life, eager to learn magic from the man he idolizes. Ethan agrees to teach him, passing on his knowledge and legacy. Later, Omar reveals that he is the son of Yassar Siddiqui, the man responsible for Ethan’s accident. Despite knowing this, Ethan continues to mentor Omar, showing his ability to forgive.
In the end, the court rejects Ethan’s plea, stating that the law cannot be compromised. Left alone in his home, Ethan reflects on his life until Sofia returns, offering him companionship in his final moments.
