**Storyline:**
The film begins in 1951 in the small village of Idar, located in the Sabarkantha district of northern Gujarat. A young man named Gurukant Desai dreams of achieving greatness despite his father Kantilal’s discouragement. Determined to succeed, Guru travels to Turkey to enter the spice trade and later works for Burmah Shell. However, he declines a promotion, choosing instead to pursue his entrepreneurial ambitions.
After returning to his village, Guru marries Sujata, primarily for the dowry she offers. Moving to Bombay with Sujata and her brother Jignesh, Guru starts trading in cloth and gradually establishes his own manufacturing enterprise under the name “Shakti Corporation.”
Guru forms a close bond with Nanaji Manik Dasgupta, the publisher of the newspaper “Swatantra,” who mentors him during his early struggles in Bombay. He also befriends Meenu, Nanaji’s granddaughter, who later develops multiple sclerosis and becomes wheelchair-bound.
As Guru’s business grows into one of India’s largest, he adopts ruthless tactics to maintain his success, including smuggling, illegal manufacturing, and stock manipulation. When Nanaji discovers Guru’s unethical practices, he collaborates with journalist Shyam Saxena to expose Guru’s corruption.
The stress of this confrontation leads Guru to suffer a stroke, leaving him partially paralyzed. Meanwhile, Meenu, now married to Shyam, succumbs to her illness. The film concludes with Guru facing a government inquiry on October 16, 1980, where he must defend himself against the accusations leveled against him.
