**Storyline:**
Chunnan Nawab, nicknamed Mirza, is a miserly old man married to Fatima Begum, who is 17 years his senior. Fatima owns a decaying mansion called Fatima Mahal in Lucknow, where various tenants reside, many of whom avoid paying proper rent. Mirza is tasked with managing the property but eagerly awaits Fatima’s death to inherit it. Among the tenants is Baankey Rastogi, a struggling wheat mill owner who lives with his mother and three sisters. Despite paying lower rent than others, Baankey consistently excuses himself from paying altogether, frustrating Mirza.
Their relationship worsens when an argument leads Baankey to damage a toilet block, which Mirza demands he repair. When Baankey refuses, Mirza begins tormenting him and his family. In retaliation, Baankey seeks revenge.
His opportunity arises when Gyanesh Shukla, a government archaeologist, recognizes the mansion’s historical significance and plans to seize it as a heritage site. Gyanesh assures Baankey that evicted tenants will receive alternative housing. Seeing a chance to undermine Mirza’s control over the property, Baankey supports Gyanesh’s plan.
